GDPR: Preparation and implementation

The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect from Friday, May 25.
I do not want to write a huge post here, but just the relevant informantion for you as a blogger or website owner.


For my website you will recognize the black bar on the bottom of the page if you are a new visitor. It basically says that the website is using cookies to ensure the correct functionality. Therefore I used the plugin Cookie Notice for my WordPress website but there are some other plugins which might be fine as well.

Another important measure is that you ensure too have HTTPS/SSL enabled on your website (if not done already) to ensure that the whole communication on your website is encrypted.
Concerning tracking tools such as Google Analytics I personally deactivated it and replaced it with Statify. It does not collect that many data as GA but this is completely fine in my case.
Furthermore you have to add a separate checkbox before the send button for all your forms. This is for the user to check before submitting a form over your website and to agree on your privacy policy. This checkbox must be opt-out by default which means not activated so the user has to do it on purpose. Here is a sample of a GDPR-compliant form:
